Non-Attachment, Neutrality, and the Most Powerful Way to Hold Space
What if the most loving thing you could offer someone isn’t empathy… or even love?
What if it’s neutrality?
In this episode, Lisa explores the deeper meaning of non-attachment — not as emotional detachment, suppression, or spiritual bypassing, but as the embodied capacity to hold presence without agenda.
Drawing from her work training facilitators at One Breath Institute, Lisa shares a powerful exercise she often guides students through: experiencing the difference between holding space from negative emotion, from love, and from neutrality.
Again and again, students discover something surprising.
Neutral often feels the safest, clearest, and most supportive.
Why?
Because neutrality removes projection, expectation, and unconscious pressure. It allows another person to access their own intelligence without being pulled into our emotional field.
In this episode, Lisa explores:
• The difference between neutrality and emotional detachment• Why sending “love” can sometimes feel heavy in therapeutic spaces• How attachment to outcomes subtly disrupts presence• The connection between neutrality and Buddhist non-attachment• Why facilitators must process their own emotions to hold clear space for others
True non-attachment doesn’t mean avoiding emotion.
It means allowing emotion to move fully through the body so we can return to a centered, grounded state of presence.
When we reach that place of neutrality, something profound happens:
The work becomes alive.
